Inspired by attending Free Stores run by the NYC Freegans and other people in the slow fashion space, I’ve started hosting and helping out at Clothing Swaps and Free Stores. If you would ever like to host your own clothing swap or free store, please reach out and I can give some helpful tips and guidance from my experiences.
Clothing Swaps
A Clothing Swap is pretty much what it sounds like, an event for people to let go and receive new-to-them clothing. While this might seem simple, there are a lot of different structures or ways for them to be organized. Please reach out to me if you’d like to plan your own for your community :)
Free Stores
Free Stores are also pretty self-explanatory, though the oxy moron does make them a bit confusing. These are events where no money is exchanged for people to take goods. There are many different structures and ways of organizing, and my take on Free Stores is heavily inspired by the Freegan philosophy that we live in a world of abundance, and everyone deserves that abundance.
